How would you promote your music as an upcoming artist if you didnt have technology?

LOL asked:

this is my music assignment and i ran outta ideas..just neeed some ideas.
Given the absence of our current technology that enables production and mass distribution, how would you as an up-and-coming composer make yourself known in that environment

Do it like they did in the 60’s, get out there and play.

Be different, and do something in public that is so spontaneous (and legal, mind you) that it will surely attract attention. Do that a lot, in big urban areas.

well, where i live at the moment, Ireland, the scene for young bands is great…so i would just get my **** together and try to land some gigs..pubs and local stuff first, then work my way up…if your good enough, and work at it long enough, chances are you will do OK….
and i think this was a better way, in terms of the music, because a band would get the chance to produce/release/preform a few albums worth of material before the whole world was listening…so they could perfect their sound without so much in the way of pressure and time constraints….
